What is a Crew House?

All Smart Move Crew Houses Are Only for Members of the Yachting / Marine Industry

Our Crew Houses are a great place to network. Crew come and go at all times of the day and night, so it’s not ideal if you are looking for a quiet space. The typical age range is 18- 25.

We suggest to more seasoned yachties (30 years and older) that they book a small private apartment.

Crew Housing Operates Similarly to Hostels

We have 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms houses with 2-3 twin/single beds per bedroom. Each bed has its own linens, pillows, and bath towels. Only pack your personal belongings. Remember to pack lite as there is not much space onboard. If you decide to bring your own pillows/sheets/towels, please notify us. All houses have full kitchens. We do not provide food but there are several grocery stores nearby all our crew houses. Uber Eats is also popular with our guests. Houses and Bedrooms are Co-Ed / Mixed Gender. You could be sharing with a male or female. If this is a concern, we suggest booking a private room in a shared crew house.

What is a Shared Bedroom? You will have roommates AND housemates. Sharing a bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, laundry room and outdoor space.

What is a Private Bedroom? Bedroom to yourself. NO roommates, BUT you have housemates. Sharing the living room, kitchen, laundry room and outdoor space

All our crew houses have free Wi-Fi and free parking. All short-term housing has laundry facilities, some are coin operated, and others are free. You will need to bring your own laundry detergent.

We do not use keys. We use electronic door locks with door codes so there is no misplacing or losing a key! All door locks and are changed periodically for peace-of-mind. Please do not share your door codes with anyone.

From renting a single bed in a crew house to buying a three-bedroom townhouse on the beach, we know the market and can help you figure out what property ownership style fits your budget and your life because, as we well know, one size most definitely does not fit all.

You are expected to conduct yourself just as if you are onboard a yacht and the Captain is watching your every move. Just remember your overall attitude and how you conduct yourself while staying with us and within the industry will affect your success and ability to climb the ropes. All guests must agree to our Crew House Rules prior to move in.

Budget Crew Houses Vs Professional Crew Houses

We offer two types of crew housing depending on your budget.

Both options offer you the same networking opportunities and locations are all central to SE 17th Street, Maritime Professional Training (MPT) and Professional Yacht Training (PYT).

Budget crew housing is our most economical shared housing. These are older Florida style homes, with 4 people per room, bunk beds and can accommodate 4-10 people per house. Private rooms are available but will not have a private bathroom.

Professional crew housing is the next tier of crew accommodation with more modern houses that have larger bedrooms with only 2 people per room. No bunk beds. These crew houses only accommodate 4-6 people per house. Many offer additional amenities such as complimentary laundry facilities and TVs in each bedroom.

Whether you decide on budget housing, or professional accommodation, both are great for anyone on a budget. It’s a wonderful way to either begin your yachting career or continue to network and build up a wonderful group of friends and colleagues.

Expectations When Living in a Smart Move Crew House

Our housekeeping team comes in once a week to clean the common areas and replenish house cleaning supplies.

Only week-to-week rentals are offered, giving our guests total flexibility. The bed or private room is yours for as long as needed provided you keep in touch EVERY week and update us on your plans.

We have a zero tolerance when it comes to late rent payments and charge late fees accordingly. It is your responsibility to get it in on time.

We will evict you immediately if we find any drugs or drug paraphernalia.

We expect you to clean up after yourselves and keep our crew houses clean and tidy. We come by and do spot checks to make sure everyone is happy and comfortable and that the:

Trash is being taken to the curb twice a week
No dirty dishes are left in the sink
Maintenance is reported
No smoking indoors
Clean up after yourself
No friends sleeping over

Something to Keep in Mind

Due to the nature of the industry, we cannot guarantee which house you will be in. We will do our very best to accommodate your requests, but specific houses cannot be guaranteed.

Be careful of very cheap crew houses. Cheaper crew houses will save you money but be prepared… the accommodation itself will be far from glamorous. It could possibly be worth paying more to stay in a better crew house.
